Eat Local Campaign

The HILFN 'Eat Local Campaign' survey ran from August to December 2008 and was distributed via our 'Local Bites' newsletter, through many events we attended and this website. Many thanks to all of you who took the time to complete a questionnaire about your local food buying and eating habits. We received over 700 in total from a wide range of geographical locations across the Highlands and Islands.

The results have now been collated (thanks to Josephine Pierce for all her hard work on this!) and make very interesting reading, giving an insight into what local food you are able to source, what you mostly buy and where and most importantly to us, what you would LIKE to buy but aren't able to find in your area.

Click on the links below to see the overall summary of survey results or the results per region.  We hope, over time, to be able to help producers who may be able to fill the obvious 'gaps' in produce availability and consumers who wish to source these items.  We'd also like to promote local food to more restaurants, cafes and hotels and to celebrate those businesses already using local ingredients in their menus.

Finally, congratulations to our two survery winners who were picked at random and won luxury local food hampers, put together by Storehouse of Foulis:  Mrs Jan Patience of Kirkhill, Inverness-shire and Mrs Kim Banks of Garmouth, Moray.
